All you need to know about satellite installation

A satellite dish is one of the most important devices in homes, and it is one of the most widespread devices. A satellite dish or what is called “satellite” can be defined as a transmitting and receiving device, used to convert microwave signals into electrical signals and frequencies, then Transferring data and broadcasting, by connecting it with a cable, and connecting it to devices connected to a satellite dish. In this article, an explanation of the steps for installing a satellite is provided.

Satellite installation equipment

1- Dish

The size of the satellite dish determines the number of satellites that can be polarized, and the satellite dishes are available in different diameters ranging from 60-80 cm.

2- LNB (Low Noise Block Converter)

This part of the dish equipment is concerned with the polarization of the receiving signal, and it depends on the number of receivers. It is worth noting that a single LNB is suitable for one receiver, while a dual LNB needs two receivers, a four-pole LNB needs four, and an eight-polar LNB to eight devices.

3- compass

The function of the compass lies in determining the azimuth angle, which is the angle that determines the horizontal rotation of the dish, and the elevation of the angle of inclination. It is worth noting that all receivers include a list for testing the quality and efficiency of the receiving signal, which is found in the settings settings menus.

4- Cable

Receivers need an antenna cable to connect to the receiver, and to polarize the frequency of the satellite channels.

5- Sockets

The function of these sockets is to polarize the satellite frequencies, so it is necessary to install the appropriate aerial sockets to receive the signal.

Satellite installation steps

1- Determining a place to put the satellite dish

Before starting to put the satellite dish, it is necessary to search for a suitable place to install it, and the best place to install the dish is to hang it on the wall or install it in the ground, away from climate fluctuations that may expose the dish to fall, in addition to making sure to place it in a place close to the satellite dish. Its own reception, to facilitate the extension of cables, and to facilitate the process of receiving the signal from the north and south, taking care to ensure that there is nothing preventing the reception of the signal.

2- Choose a suitable holder for the dish

It is worth noting the necessity of choosing a holder suitable for the size of the dish, and starting to install the holder on the wall in a way that allows the dish to be moved easily. and stoppers for screws, and install them all, taking care to tighten them tightly.

3- Prepare the connection cable

Care must be taken to choose a cable of a suitable size for the satellite dish. The following are the steps to be followed to prepare the cable:

  • Cut the cable's outer insulation by 1.5 cm.
  • Trim about 1 cm of the outer insulation of the cable.
  • Bend the copper braid behind the insulator.
  • Install the cable connector in place.
  • Put the connector on one end of the cable, and put a plug on the other end to make it easier to operate.

4- Gather the parts of the plate

In the beginning, a so-called “LNB” must be installed in the arm of the dish, and it is worth noting that the location of the dish depends on its size in the first place.

5- Installing a satellite dish

The dish can be installed on the wall or on the roof of the building, taking care to move it right and left, as well as installing it vertically, to facilitate receiving the signal from the satellite, then install the holder above the dish, and fix the screws tightly, to avoid moving the dish when the climate changes.

6- Installing the adjustment plate for the dish above the wall

The function of this panel is to set the connection to the desired satellite, by selecting a satellite, as satellite dishes do not attract the signal from all satellites.

7- Setting the satellite signal

The satellite signal can be adjusted in azimuth angle by using a compass to determine directions, moving the satellite dish to distinguish the signal, then adjusting the polarization by LNB, to adjust the quality of the receiving signal, by connecting the dish cable with the receiver and the TV set.

8- Turn on the TV to check the signal

After installing the dish and the frequency setting panel, the signal must be checked and ensured its quality, by turning on the TV and updating the satellite channels. The direction of the dish can be changed when the reception signal is weak or bad, so the azimuth angle numbers should be compared with the location of the satellite and the height of the LNB.

Types of satellite dishes

The main function of satellite dishes is to polarize the signal frequency of the satellite, so the large dishes are characterized by their low frequency, while the small dishes are of high frequency, and it is worth noting that the satellite dishes were large and huge in the past. :

1- Motor drive satellite dishes

The function of the transducer or actuator in these dishes is to determine the trajectory of the dish's movement, to pick up the satellite frequency.

2- Multi-satellite dishes

These dishes work by means of reflectors that pick up signals from more than one location at the same time. It is worth noting that these reflectors are placed in a vertical manner to facilitate the process of capturing signals.

3- Very Small Aperture Terminal

This type of dishes is the most widespread around the world, which are dishes that use two types of private networks and consumer networks at the same time.
